Windows 95 Is Driving Me Crazy!: A Practical Guide to Windows 95 Headaches, Hassles, Bugs, Potholes, and Installation Problems
Published in Paperback by Peachpit Press (April, 1996)
Author: Kay Yarborough Nelson
Average review score:

Fixed 3 problems the first afternoon. Well worth the money.
As a newby to Windows, I blindly used Windows 95 as I learned about the Windows platform. As the weeks passed, so did the quality of the performance of my programs. My CD-ROM was no longer available, my desk top lost things around the edges, and then when I tried to load a free software package from an Internet Service Provider, and had to abort the load, I lost 8 drivers and the platform no longer wanted to load. It was clearly time to stop putting up with this deterioration and start fixing things. A couple of guru's were of no help with the ROM so I took the advice of one and bought this book. I am now well on my way to total recovery and am deeply grateful to Kay Nelson for taking the time to write all of this down for those of us that flounder when encountering the Great God, Windows 95, Ruler of My PC, whether I like it or not. I now feel that I am starting to regain my rightful control of my computer, for the first time in about 8 weeks. I am not used to an operating system that tells me I am not allowed to load things into my computer, even if it is probably good advice. And I will have trouble adjusting to the new world of missing and modified DOS commands. And with Kay's help, I may soon be able to guess where my old and friendly app's programs might have put the file we just created. Yes, Windows 95 has truly been driving me crazy for about 8 weeks, but I am now feeling better, since help has arrived.

A great resource for folks moving to Windows 95

As a new user of Windows 95 (but veteran Windows 3.x user), I was looking for a book that would help me appreciate how it works--but I didn't need hand-holding. None impressed me, so I started using the product anyway. I was immediately struck by several unintuitive and challenging quirks. I also started to see work-arounds that left me wondering why the designers hadn't thought of the same things I had (like default "send to" entries for the Start menu and Desktop). Anyway, I then happened upon this book and felt an immediate rush of comfort and solace, reading of another's similar discoveries and shared solutions. Being confident that I'd barely scratched the surface of such challenges, and wanting to be able to solve them quickly when I did encounter them, I bought this book. I'm happy I did. If you're a Windows 3.x, Mac, or OS/2 user converting to Windows 95, I think you'll find it very helpful too!

The Woman Within: Daily Devotions for Women in Recovery
Published in Audio Cassette by Thomas Nelson (February, 1992)
Authors: Jan Congo and Nelson Word Publishing Group
Average review score:

Excellent series. Worthwhile investment.
This series was recommended to me by a friend and therapist. I highly recommend it as well.

What I have Learned from "The Woman Within"
I have been through several twelve step programs, and would work through the steps to a certain point...then stop. With this book of devotions for women in recovery, my progress has been significant. As my internal relationship grew more intimate with God, my external relationships grew deeper with my husband, children and friends. Each day was a blessing to read the scripture references and short story; then to pray and acknowledge my feelings as they surfaced. Sometimes the devotional time brought tears, sometimes laughter, sometimes, a desire to forgive or be forgiven, and always a desire to become the woman God wanted me to be that day.

The Woman's Study Bible
Published in Paperback by Thomas Nelson (December, 1998)
Author: Thomas Nelson Publishers
Average review score:

Excellent resource
I am excited each time I open the pages of this Woman's Study Bible. I own over 25 bibles and this is one of the best I have used.

The study group I am in will be looking at the lives of most of the women in Scripture to see how to apply or avoid the things we learn from their lives. This bible has profiles on many of the women, deals with subject matters that help you to apply biblical principles, and shows you the role women played in the life of Jesus. Their commentary on the text is very insightful and gives clarification according to the context of the verses.

It is hard to find fault with this study bible. It comes in softcover, hardcover and leather (at reasonable prices). The print is good, nice margins, NKJV text, cross references, concordance and an index of the charts, notes and profiles. There is also historical information. such as, Women and Archaeology, at the beginning of the bible.

I am familiar with several of the contributors and have heard them speak or have read their works. These ladies are of sound reputation in their doctrine and their dedication to the Word of God.

I thank God for this resource and hope every woman who is serious about studying the Word gets a copy for their library. I highly recommend The Woman's Study Bible.

Excellent Study Bible for Women
This bible is a wonderful resource for any woman who wants a little extra information to go along with the Scripture readings. The print is large and easy to read, and the extra notes are clearly separated from the actual Scripture text. The notes are informative and thoughtfully written, and are specifically geared to issues and concerns of today's woman. I would recommend this Bible to any woman actively involved in a bible study class or any woman wishing a more in depth look at the Scriptures.

Women Of Destiny Bible Women Mentoring Women Through The Scriptures

Praise God
Before I became a born again Christian, I was very much "one of the boys" in that most of my friends were men as I seemed to get on better with them than with women. I realised after becoming a Christian, that I needed to develop my "femininity" and to relate more to women - which is why I bought this Bible. When I first saw it and looked through it, I didn't like it much as I felt it looked TOO feminine and that it wasn't much of a study bible, etc. But each time I picked it up, I became more and more struck by how beautiful it is - the purple leather cover, lettering and lovely font - not forgetting the great inspirational letters. I found myself becoming more and more drawn to this Bible. To me, this Bible has a strong spiritual "presence", for everytime I open it, it evokes everything that I believe a Christian woman should be - warm, loving, inspiring, comforting, maternal and supportive. I know that may sound a litte strange to some of you, but, thats what I sense (my other Bibles don't have the same effect). I now carry this Bible with me to work and home again because its so wonderful to have! Sisters, I truly recommend this Bible to you. God bless you all!

I loved it!
As a young reader (20), I loved the book, Women of Destiny. It was a great encouragement to me as a young lady. It showed me how God can use women just as well as men. I was struggling with knowing for sure if God had called me into the ministry. However, after reading this book and others like it and doing a lot of praying, God showed me that children and youth ministry is where he wants me to be. I want to thank all the many women who took the time to share their stories in the book. May God bless you always.

Wooden Teeth & Jelly Beans: The Tupperman Files (Flying Rhinoceros. Presidents)
Published in Hardcover by Beyond Words Publising (December, 1995)
Authors: Ray Nelson, Michelle Roehm, and Ben Adams
Average review score:

The Best Book
Years ago, when I was 9 years old, my mother bought me "Wooden Teeth and Jelly Beans" so that I could learn about our country's presidents. I loved the book so much, I took it everywhere and read it almost everyday. I could name all the presidents in order and add an interesting fact about each one. I am now 15 and have since lost this great book, and I am here to spend my own money to buy another. I loved this book so much and I'm sure that your children will love it too and learn so much from it.

Can't miss with young children!
We bought this book when on vacation and it was wonderful. Our girls (then 8 and 5) spent hours reading facts about the presidents. They delighted in coming up with question that their father and I could not answer. It's great because it contains little facts about our presidents without having to read long paragraphs. I am currently looking to buy another copy as ours was lent to someone - never to return again.

Writing and Being: Taking Back Our Lives Through the Power of Language
Published in Paperback by Innisfree Press (September, 1994)
Author: G. Lynn Nelson
Average review score:

A wonderful, inspiring, spritual yet not religious guide....
G. Lynn Nelson's WRITING AND BEING, has persuaded me to embark on a journal of my own. As a student, I was quickly drawn by its poignant examples and practical "how to" guided instruction.

Because of its easy to read style and organization, I highly recommend it to secondary English teachers. It is a "must have" resource book. But, then again, it is for those teachers who are willing to leave the traditional dogma and instead teach students to write from the heart because as Nelson contends, journals are "a room of your own" where you can swear, scream or cry; a room to repair the spirit, find inner healing and also rediscover the freedom and power of language.

Journal writing goes beyond diary or log writing. In journals you write about what you "feel" and "see" within you, those thoughts that come from your heart that may be difficult to share or confront. Journal writing may not be for everyone, but this book CERTAINLY makes the reader believe that he/she can do it!

From journal to published writing.
Here is a book that reminds you that you cannot separate the mind from the heart. The author takes you on an inner journey and you come out the other side transformed through your journal exploration. You will be given tools for introspection that help you redefine who you are through your writing. And then Writing and Being takes you one step further and encourages you to explore other possibilities through your writing. Highly recommended for journalers who would also like to go public with their stories, prose, and poems.

A Year in the Life of a Shinto Shrine
Published in Paperback by University of Washington Press (April, 1996)
Author: John K. Nelson
Average review score:

The ritual cycle of a Shinto Shrine.
The author uses a major Shinto Shrine, Nagasaki's Suwa Shrine, as the focus of the book. It starts out with chapters about Kami, the history of the shrine and a overview of rituals and ceremonies then the book is cut up into Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. It has lots of details, including, in the back, a map of the shrine, glossary of terms, list of festivals and rituals of the Suwa Shrine and works cited. The details are about this ONE Shrine, so if you wanted a book on all kami and shrines in Japan THIS is not it. Yet it does give a nice first person account of events in a Shinto Shrine, dealing with beliefs, practices and how the shrine interacts with the city's community, businesses and families. Kind of like seeing the forest by examing one of the trees.
A must for people interested in Shintoism or Japan.

A beautifully written look behind Shinto's veil of mystery.
For any serious student of Shinto or highly interested, independent researcher, this book is a wonderful choice. Dr. Nelson's vivid imagery and comprehensive descriptions give the reader a chance to connect emotionally with the events as they transpire across time. In my case, I felt almost as though I was present. There are few English-language volumes on Shinto which so clearly and eloquently deliver up to the reader what, until recent years, has been arcane knowledge unavailable to the West.

375 Meatless Recipes
Published in Paperback by Teach Services (March, 1993)
Author: Ethel R. Nelson
Average review score:

The best vegetarian cookbook of all time!
This cookbook has all the basic recipes for making tasty meatless entrees, high in protein and so delicious. Everything from bean burgers to cashew cheese spread, from egg & cheese ingredients to dairy free recipes. There is everything you could want in this book. And all the recipes are simple. Some of the seasonings may be hard-to-find, but you could ask at health food stores, or you could just substitute your own seasonings. But most of the ingredients are very basic. One of my favorite recipes are the pecan meatballs made from pecan meal, cheese and eggs. If you use these meatballs in stroganoff or spaghetti, you will think you have died and gone to heaven!
